Transition to the IBM Power4

The IBM SP was shut down and removed!!!


  • Last access time: 8:00 am, Monday, March 13, 2006.

  • Power4 accounts have been created for all SP users with your current SP username and password. To use the new account, just ssh (secure shell) to regatta.msi.umn.edu. If you have any trouble logging in contact the Institute's technical support helpline (at 612-626-0802 or help@msi.umn.edu).

  • If you have an account on the Power4 system, your SP home directory has been added to the Power4 system with the same name as it was on SP. For example /homes/sp16/user-name.

  • SP home directories and mail files are now available on Power4. Users can run the command 'spfiles' to find the locations.

  • We will not be transfering scratch files. If you have scratch files that you do not need, it will be helpful if you delete them. If you have files in the scratch directories that you need, you should transfer them to your home directory before Monday, March 13, 2006, or transfer them to another system.

  • You will need to recompile your SP codes on the Power4 systems before you run them.

  • You may also need to modify your job submission scripts especially for parallel jobs since the architecture of the Power4 system is very different from the SP. Please see IBM Power4 System (Regatta & p655) for Quick Start information.

  • All commercial and public domain software that is installed on the SP has now been installed on our other systems.
