FAST: Contours
Note: After you display the data, you may
annotate the data within FAST, this includes adding a legend and text.
Simple Contours
To display contours of data that you have read, start the "Surfer" module (use
the "Surferu" module if your data is unstructured) from the "Viewer"
module. You will see the following.
In the "View Window", you will should see a mesh of your data. If not, click
on the "Find Objects" button in the "Viewer" and zoom in or out if necessary.
Now, pull down the "Render" menu of the "Surfer" to "Contour Lines", you
should see something similar to the following.
To fill in the colors, pull the "Render" menu down to "Smooth Polygons", you
should the shaded contours. Here is an example.
You can control the number of contour levels and the contour min and max.
To do so, pull the "Panels" menu of the "Surfer" down to "Contours ...", then
click on the value that you wish to change. Be sure to press return after
you have entered the new number.
Other Contours
You may display both shaded contours and contour lines at the same time. Here
is an example.
Here is a general procedure to draw contour lines on top of shaded contours.
- Read in the data and all desired function files. Start the surfer
module, and position the image in the "View Window"
- In the "Surfer", click on the "Copy Object" button. You should now see
two objects, named "surfer#1" and "surfer#2" in the field just below the "Copy
Object" button. You should see the following.
You may select an object to modify by clicking on it.
- Click on the object "surfer#1". Now create shaded contours for this
object by
- Pulling down the "Render" menu to "Contour Lines".
- Pulling down the
"Render" menu down once again to "Smooth Polygons".
You should now see a mesh over the shaded contours.
- Click on the object "surfer#2". Now create contour lines of a single
color by
- Pulling down the "Render" menu to "Contour Lines".
- Pulling down the
"Attributes" menu down once again to "Constant Color Contours".
You should now see contour lines over the shaded contours.
If you want to change the color of the contour lines,
- Pull the "Panels" menu down to "Colors ...". You will see the following
- Click on "Contour"
- Use the sliders to change the color. When done press close.
