The University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute seeks to hire a Bioinformatics Consultant to join a dynamic group that provides a high level of technical support for researchers at the University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.
Consult with researchers and interact with users on a one-to-one basis to enable them to solve their problems in an effective manner. This often involves using commercial and public domain software, writing code/scripts, setting up bioinformatics databases, and writing scripts to integrate various software packages and databases to streamline procedures for biologists.
Create and present tutorials and workshops on, bioinformatics, genomics and/or proteomic software and database. Take a pro-active approach in communicating the research potential of software and facilities to the University community.
Prepare and maintain documentation to support users of the databases and software.
Strategic planning, evaluation and maintenance of software and hardware: Make recommendations for software and hardware purchases.
The person who fills this position will also participate in other user support activities of the Supercomputing Institute.
This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a successful program that provides technical support to a broad range of development efforts and applications in computational bioinformatics and genomics, There will be no opportunity to pursue personal research projects.
Salary commensurate with experience.
