TIES:Supercomputing and The Brain

Utilizing the Internet2 connections of area high schools, the Supercomputing Institute for Digital Simulation and Advanced Computation with The Technology and Information Education Services (TIES), will host on January 22, 2004 a videoconference on high-performance computing that targets secondary level science students. The event , which involves HollandWoods Middle School in Michigan and South Saint Paul High School in Minnesota, coveres the following topics: what is supercomputing, fundamentals of supercomputing, daily applications of supercomputing, applications of supercomputing to brain simulations, digitizing brain images for visualization, and simulating brain activity. The presentation was developed and made by Dr. H. Birali Runesha and Dr. Yuk Sham of the Supercomputing Institute's user support staff.
